Electric Showers – Cost Effective Bathroom Luxury

The 2005 Building Regulations suggest that electric showers should be installed by a qualified electrician, which makes sense when you think about what a lethal cocktail electricity and water make together.  On the plus side, electric showers are the only type of shower that are suitable for all types of domestic water system – so you pays your money and you takes your choice.

When you have decided to ‘go electric’ you’ll find that the selection of electric showers put together by Great Bathroom Ideas covers the whole gamut of prices and styles.  Top of the range is the Triton Excite Electric Shower; this 9.5kw slimline electric shower benefits from a stylish satin finish.  It also features power on and low pressure indicators, start/stop button and rub-clean shower head.  Its top, bottom, side and rear cable and pipe entries make it easy to install, as it gives more flexibility when routing the cables and pipes.

Also at the top end of the range is the Hudson Reed Corona 10.5kw Electric Shower, which can be fitted with left or right hand entry, thus, avoiding the need for re-piping or re-wiring.

Moving to mid-market, there are a number of options, still at 9.5kw power.  There are a couple of Triton showers – the Excite, Entice, and Enlight electric showers are all mid-range in price, or you might prefer the Redring Slimline Electric Shower.  The ultra-slim Redring model is fully temperature stabilised, and has 3 power settings, as well as overheat protection, push-button power selection and on/off, timed phase shut-down.

Showers – The Best Way To Start The Day!

Nothing like a good shower is there.  Unfortunately, some showers are nothing like a good shower!  Hopefully, these next couple of paragraphs will give you the basic information necessary for choosing the correct shower for your specific needs.

Perhaps the most important thing to understand is that not all showers can be used with all water heating systems, so your first job is to ascertain how your hot water gets hot.

Electric showers, you will be pleased to hear, will work with any hot water system. Mixer showers, on the other hand, are not recommended for use with combination boilers or multipoint heaters unless they are fitted with a special valve; any plumber should be able to do this job for you.  Without the special valve, you risk getting either scalded or frozen as somebody turns on a tap in another part of the house.

If you’re hankering after a power shower, you might be surprised (or not) to find out that this is simply a mixer shower fitted with a pump.  Power showers are only suitable for use with low pressure, tank fed systems and the cold water tank should have a capacity of more than 50 gallons.  If you have a cold water tank dedicated to the shower, it should be of 25 gallon capacity.  It is vital that the water supply is above the shower to prevent the shower having to suck in air before it gets to the water. Separate hot and cold water supply is essential.
