The Benefits Of Purchasing A Walk-In Shower Or Walk-In Tub

Many years ago, the elderly did not have as many options to help them live on their own instead of going to a nursing home. Now, there are a lot of advances that have made it easier for older Americans live in their own homes by themselves for longer. Advances have also helped the elder citizens stay active for more time. Older people no longer have to leave their homes to locate effective, low impact workouts. Examples of these advances include the walk in shower and walk tub both of which have become really popular with the older U.S. population. The following is a list of reasons that explains why these have grown so much in popularity:

1. The most common reason for injury amongst elderly individuals is falls whether it is because they trip over a pet or because they fall in the tub. However, most falls do happen in the shower or the tub. To make the home safer, people can put in special bathtubs that they can walk into without worrying about any kind of steep step. The tubs are even with the ground of the bathroom floor and usually they have a high door and a handle bar located on the sides of the bath for added safety. The reason for the high doors is so that if someone does slip, they can hopefully grip the door or the door will stop them from falling onto the hard tile floor as opposed to a regular shower where it is easy to fall over the normal tub step and onto the ground.

2. Showers and bathtubs can be really therapeutic for senior individuals with the new technology that is available. Today, automatic and/or timed jets are available, which can be a great remedy for sore muscles and bones. Also, they can be nice and relaxing after a long day of work or after exercise. These can help with arthritis or old breaks in the bone that can cause a lot of pain for older individuals.

3. Finally, companies now sell these miniature pools or in some cases, tubs, that make it possible to exercise in them. The way it works is there are jets that create some decent resistance and people can walk or swim in the little pool to get really good, therapeutic exercise. This is great for those who do not want to find a fitness center away from neighborhood or for those who want to exercise, but they need low impact exercise routines. Now, these can be pretty pricey, but companies provide many different extras that can either be added or subtracted depending on each individual’s needs.

New technologies now make it possible for older Americans to live independent lives in their own homes for at least a few years longer, instead of leaving their homes to go to a nursing home. The elderly can also get more exercise by incorporating new types of technology in their homes, such as exercise pools and special bathtubs to help keep them active and much safer. It will be really neat to see what products will be available in the future for older people, so that they can live independently in their homes for longer than they do now.

Designs Ideas For A Walk In Shower

If you like privacy and consider a shower to be a private time then an enclosed walk in shower will probably be the most suitable. They allow a lot of room to move about in but also afford privacy. They are often constructed by tiling solid walls.

Extra light can be provided into the shower area by placing a row of glass bricks along the top or even by building the enclosure out of opaque glass bricks. Also fixing a shower door with opaque glass will also allow the ingress of light without compromising privacy.

Those that feel a little more adventurous may like to consider the option of a shower for two people. Each shower head is fixed to the wall at opposite ends of the shower cubicle. As with the more enclosed shower the walls are constructing by fixing ceramic tiles to the walls of the shower area. A door is not usually required as there is often enough room for two people to move about freely.

A nice touch to both types is a skylight which will allow plenty of light into the area. Also windows can be placed in such a way to allow everyone to look out onto a garden or back yard whilst taking a shower. However, it is important that the windows are high enough to not allow people to look in.

Designing a new shower can be a lot of fun as it allows you to reflect your own style and personality, as long as it is i keeping with the general decor of the bathroom.

Allow your personal preferences and tastes to dictate the shape and function of your walk in shower design. In that way you will be very happy with your choice of shower and enjoy the space every time you use it for many years to come.
